3 Jeans for Mom
Remember that hilarious Tina Fey skit on SNL? OK, there were more than one so let me be more specific: the one about mom jeans. In the skit, which aired in May 2003, Tina Fey wrote about a fake brand of jeans called Mom Jeans. The tagline? “For this Mother’s Day, don’t give mom that bottle of perfume. Give her something that says, ‘I’m not a woman anymore…I’m a mom!”
Joke’s on her now, innit? The high waisted, ankle length “mom jeans” that Tina and everyone mocked in the early ‘00s are more fashionable now than they ever were. I know because my 12-year-old recently asked me if I had any ‘mom jeans’ stored away somewhere in the basement, you know, the ones I wore in the ‘80s
“Didn’t you wear mom jeans in when you were a teenager?” she asked. Actually, I did not. I thought they were hideous when I was a teen. But a year into the pandemic and I gotta say, they’ve grown on me and have gotten me through a Zoom call (or a hundred…but who’s counting?)
