To celebrate the release of his new album, Sufjan Stevens hosted a number of silent listening parties with independent record stores and other venues. Fans from New York to Sydney and Dublin had the chance to hear the album, Carrie & Lowell, before its release on March 31. Stevens plays the Orpheum on June 9.
Recorded by Stevens alongside Casey Foubert, Laura Veirs, Nedelle Torrisi, Sean Carey, Ben Lester and Thomas Bartlett, Carrie & Lowell features 11 songs that address life and death, love and loss, and the artist’s struggle to make sense of the beauty and ugliness of love. The album is named for Stevens’ mother and stepfather and is a return to Stevens’ folk roots.
