If you’ve spent any time walking around Gastown, you’ve probably come across LYNNsteven, arguably one of Vancouver’s coolest little boutiques. We stopped by for their Summer Beauty Soiree to sample the new collection of natural makeup and organic skincare products.

At LYNNsteven, shop owner Nicole hand-picks every product with the advice of nutritionists and skincare experts. The collection was displayed in product groupings–from Beach Babe to Camping Cutie–to suit all your summer needs.

But there’s more to the boutique than skincare products. Tourists and passersby often stop on their tracks outside the shop’s floor-to-ceiling window to peer in the air-filled space, which features not only chic and edgy fashions and accessories by the likes of Sundry, Pyrrah, and Clover Canyon but also a curved wall made of thousands (6,000 to be exact) of paperbacks layered on top of each other (a nod to the brick buildings typical of the neighbourhood).

Not just cool to look at, the book installation was designed by Michael Green of MGA | Michael Green Architecture to create a one-of-a-kind changing room. The boutique, which is named after the owner Nicole’s mom and younger brother, has won numerous design awards since opening in 2009.

Some of the lines Nicole and her skincare experts selected are unique in that the products have more than one use. For example, the ILIA Beauty Tenderly Multistick ($42) combine organic ingredients like shea butter and vitamin E good for lips, eyes and cheeks. Amanda Gangoso, a makeup artist and nutritionist, was on site at the summer celebration to offer healthy lifestyle advice. Check out COOLA Mineral Sunscreen ($42), which not only protects from the rays but also nourishes skin with antioxidants and shea butter. Another stand-out product is Zoe Organic insect repellent ($25), which blends essential oils in a base of nourishing, non-GMO soybean and castor oils to keep bugs at bay while enjoying the outdoors. It’s so pure and organic that it can be applied to kids and tots as young as six months old.

I walked away from the event with a goodie bag filled with some pretty awesome organic products. Come at me, summer!
