Vancouver yogis got sweaty at Parq Vancouver with an early morning yoga session to kick off the 2018 JUNOS.
Local yoga legend and global Lululemon brand ambassador, Ryan Leier, led a gaggle of tranquility seekers through 75 minutes of sun salutations with 2018 double-JUNO nominee DJ Felix Cartal on the ones and twos. A $10 suggested donation at the door benefitting Vinyasa Yoga for Youth and MusiCounts put, no doubt, some much needed dollars in the right hands.
With yoga mats strategically placed and coconut water doled out upon entry, all participants had to do was wake up a touch earlier than one might naturally do on an unseasonably chilly overcast Saturday morning.
Ryan’s light hearted, easy-going nature warmed up the crowd nicely. Those looking for the turbo advanced program had ample tweaks offered up by the half dozen. “From a hands and knees position, lift your left leg, stretch your right arm and the advanced yogis wanting to be super heroes, stretch both arms,” Leier joked (a few even tried).
At about the 2o minute mark, a tangible sense of zen washed over the crowd with ODESZA – In Return smoothly transitioning to Bonobo’s embryonic sounding track, Migration. The session rounded out with a blissful just-long-enough savasna (corpse pose).
Hot tip: You can listen to Felix’s entire playlist from the event by getting friendly with his Instagram profile. Spoiler alert, the playlist is exceptional.
After getting a selfie or twenty with Ryan and Felix, freshly relaxed and slightly zoned out, we were sent on our way with a bottle of Vancouver’s best Standard Kombucha and bad stuff free granola bars. Keep your eyes peeled for more Lululemon branded events in the near future.
