Monarch Burger launches at The American on Main Street and is sure to become the city’s favourite hub for classic burger lovers.

What started as a one-off popup has evolved into a permanent collaboration establishing Main Street’s largest and most hotly anticipated gathering spot for burgers and beers. Monarch Burger is a new burger concept by Robert Belcham, culinary kingpin behind some of the best burgers Vancouverites have ever tasted, finds a perfect home at The American owned by fellow East-siders Ezra Kish, Simon Fallick, and Patryk Drozd.

The Monarch Burger menu is hearty and concise, featuring a hamburger, cheeseburger, double cheeseburger, veggie burger, and grilled cheese along with sides of fries, poutine, and a kale Caesar salad. Quality ingredients and pride in preparation are the hallmarks: beef is aged for 45 days, and fries are made from local Russet Burbank potatoes. Burgers are customizable with a short-list of add-ons, and early birds can take advantage of the daily $12 burger-and-beer special between 5:00pm and 7:00pm.

As the newest member of The Cobalt and Boxcar family, The American is a 150-seat pub featuring communal tables, pinball, and arcade games open seven nights a week from 5pm till late. A wide variety of B.C. craft beer sets the tone for the drinks menu while English-style pub service characterizes the relaxed vibe; customers belly up to the bar to both order and pay.

Parents love the family-friendly approach and children are welcome until 10pm. “We wanted to create a place where everyone in the neighbourhood would feel comfortable, somewhere they could bring their kids, get an awesome burger or just hang out,” says Kish. Entertainment is scheduled regularly throughout the week, but there will never be a cover charge.
