Austin-based quartet, The Bright Light Social Hour is coming to Vancouver’s Media Club May 6th to drop a dose of psychedelic rock-meets-blues-meets-dance beats in your sweaty bandana. In 2011 the band swept an unprecedented six awards at SXSW Austin Music Awards, including Band of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year for “Detroit.”
Earlier this year, The Bright Light Social Hour released their second full-length album, Space Is Still the Place, to jonesing listeners around the globe via Frenchkiss Records and MapleMusic in Canada. Ten tracks that genre hop with The Doors-esque “Sweet Madeline” to the marble smooth “Sea of Edge.” Honourable mention goes to “Dreamlove,” with its electro lead-in disco beats and echoing reverb-heavy vocals. Another track, “Slipstream,” makes the cloud-walking baseline a trip to guitar bluesy heaven on a stoner rock stallion.
